Design must be more than beautiful appearance – this is the basis so far of all the promoted projects of the program “Designing politics – The politics of design” together since it was started in 2006. They all explicitly tackle the cultural, societal and politically relevant metamorphoses, and through their work propose a new responsible role of the designer in the complex of societal interrelations.
In the current promotion year, the IFG grants 50.000 Euros to design-projects from Rotterdam (Klimamaschine) and South America (Social Housing South America) through the superior HfG Ulm foundation.
Ton Matton - „Die KlimaMaschine. Surviving the Suburb“
Sheep and cows graze between state-of-the-art skyscrapers – according to the Dutch urban planner Ton Matton this rural idyll need not remain an utopia in today’s urban life. His project „Die KlimaMaschine. Surviving the Suburb“ aims at the metamorphoses of westernized city culture towards a globalized metropolis with a human face
Robles-Duran - „Social Housing South America“
Well-groomed front-gardens and accurately tiled town-houses instead of garbage in the streets and corrugated metal sheets on the roofs – this is the goal of architect, urban planner and designer Miguel Robles-Duran’s design project “Social Housing South America”, inspite of the that fact that the reality in Southamerican megacities still looks completely different.
In the previous year, the grant was shared by projects from Jerusalem (Master Peace Game), Johannesburg (The Kwa Thema Project) and New York (Uncounted Counts).
